چکیده

Background. Aortic dissection requires prompt and reliable diagnosis to reduce the high mortality. The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability of both ECG-triggered magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and transesophageal two-dimensional echocardiography combined with color-coded Doppler flow imaging (TEE) for the diagnosis of thoracic aortic dissection and associated epiphenomena. Methods and Results. Fifty-three consecutive patients with clinically suspected aortic dissection were subjected to a dual noninvasive imaging protocol in random order; imaging results

Transesophageal magnetic resonance imaging of the aortic arch and descending thoracic aorta in patients with aortic atherosclerosis.

OBJECTIVES We sought to determine the feasibility and potential of transesophageal magnetic resonance imaging (TEMRI) for quantifying atherosclerotic plaque burden in the aortic arch and descending thoracic aorta in comparison with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). BACKGROUND Improved morphologic assessment of atherosclerotic plaque features in vivo is of interest because of the potenti...

Case 2—2014

ACUTE ASCENDING AORTIC DISSECTION is a serious condition with significant mortality requiring prompt diagnosis and surgical treatment as mortality rates increase hourly without intervention. There are a number of modalities currently used to diagnose aortic dissection, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), each with dif...

Localized Aortic Root Dissection Secondary to Contrast Agent Injection: Feasibility of Conservative Follow-up With Echocardiography

Introduction: Iatrogenic aortocoronary dissection (ACD) is a nightmare in interventional cardiology. Although ACD is rarely reported, the real-world prevalence is suspected of being higher due to unreported cases. The right coronary artery (RCA) ostium is involved in the majority of cases, and dissections are usually limited to the aortic sinus in half of the clinical presentat...

Aortic and Common Carotid Artery Dissections

Background: Aortic arch dissection is usually lethal unless emergency surgery is performed. The dissection rarely may have a benign outcome or may occur without pain and be revealed by cerebral infarction. It is then likely to be seen primarily by a neurologist. In such cases, the value of new noninvasive diagnostic testing has not been reported. Case Description: A 51-year-old man had a sudden...

Penetrating atherosclerotic aortic ulcer: documentation by transesophageal echocardiography.

OBJECTIVES This study sought to describe the ability of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to document the presence of penetrating atherosclerotic aortic ulcers and their complications. BACKGROUND TEE has greatly enhanced our ability to assess patients with suspected aortic disease. However, the utility of this technique in the diagnosis of penetrating atherosclerotic aortic ulcers is sti...
